Reading: Term 1, Week 8

LP1 - HOMEWORK DOC: MONDAY
Make sure you have created a new sheet in your Home Learning Doc and inserted your new spelling words 
(after your test of Friday)

LP2 - PHOTO Challenge
WALT find images that inspire, interest and humour 


 Photo Challenge
  • In your Literacy Doc, insert a picture of a person you would love to trade places with for a day
  • Click on “Insert” and ‘Text Box’ and say who the person is and why you would like to trade places with them

LP3 - POETRY:
WALT create a cinquain


  • A cinquain is a poem with five lines that follows a pattern. 
  • Here are some examples of how to construct a cinquain.  
  • Have a go at writing your own in your LITERACY BOOK.

LP4 - SPELLING: 

Have a buddy test you on your spelling words each day


LP5 - BLOG

ePortfolio Requirements

  • Check that all of your posts have the correct labels - you will need an iPad or Laptop
  • Check any DRAFT posts and finish them off, add a label and publish them
  • Delete any DRAFT posts that you are not going to use
  • Decide on ONE OR MORE learning activity that you are going to put onto your blog and complete your Blog Reflection


LP5 - COMMENT: 
Make a reflective comment on your buddy's blog

CAN DO's

I1 - Create and upload onto your ePortfolio Blog. 
I2 - Silent Reading for a maximum of 20 minutes
I3 - Go to the Library at 10:30am (with Teacher permission) and borrow or return a library book

LP1 - BOOK 

your workshops and fill in your timetable daily.



LP2 PLAN

WALT use a graphic organiser to plan writing
  • Choose a picture that grabs your attention or bring in a picture that you have found yourself (no zombies please)
  • Think about all of the possibilities that you can write about.
  • Fill in a 5 Finger Retell sheet with your idea.  



LP3 - WRITE: 

WALT use a variety of language features and vocabulary to develop our creative ideas.


Success Criteria
  • Use metaphors, similes, personification and/or onomatopoeia
  • use vocabulary that is related to the topic

Instructions: 
  • In your writing book write the date and glue in the WALT
  • Insert your picture
  • Using the ideas from your graphic organiser, begin writing your story.


This piece of writing will be peer assessed. Check that you have met the Success Criteria.

This is also the perfect time to show your teacher evidence of your ability to use lots of different writing features.




LP4 - DOC:  

WALT develop a character


Success Criteria

  • Write with correct tense
  • Write using vivid verbs
  • Write using interesting adjectives
  • Describe the setting (where the character lives)

Instructions:
  • In your writing doc, insert a horizontal line
  • Above the line type in your date and WALT
  • The title is SIX SENTENCE STORY (you can also give your piece of writing a name)
  • You are writing a story for an ALIEN! Being new to Earth, they need you to make sure your writing includes important information and specific details


  1. The first sentence begins with ‘Once upon a time…..’ and introduces the main character
  2. The second sentence describes where the character lives
  3. The third sentence describes the character’s special talent
  4. The fourth sentence describes the character’s problem
  5. The fifth sentence tells how the character feels about the problem
  6. The sixth sentence tells how the character solves the problems

Remember:  These are not sentence headings. They could be paragraphs, so keep an eye out for TIPTOP. Your story must flow from sentence to sentence.

I2 - Quirky Quote (Complete in your blog): WALT think critically:

  - What does this quote mean to you?
  - Do you agree? Why? Why not?
  - How does this apply to you?
